Ihave a koken barber chair i am restoring.Iam not sure how to take the pump out of the base.when you pull the handle all the way back it will not lock the chair in place.I would appreciate any help i also need a new handle my camera is broke the handle has a metal ball on top.

Hello, I am helping my great uncle try to decide how old a Koken Barber Chair is/what it may be worth. I don't have pictures right now, But it is White (probably porcelin) with Leather back rest and seat. The head rest is not padded it actually appears to just be metal and it has a hydraulic lift. I attempted to read the serial number on the lift (only number I could find on the chair) and it appears to say B/S(or 8)/3/Sideways Crown?/8. If anyone has any information they could provide it would be great. The information I provided is about all that we have.

Please help me! I have this old, wooden barber chair and I can not for the life of me find the name/brand and have no idea how old it is. I am considering restoring it but I need to know the brand/age first. I have a Koken barber chair, very old, and in perfect condition. Even the hydraulics. Under the seat in the casting there is "005 A". Does anyone know if this indicates the date of manufacture?

This Chair was fully restored to a "John Deere" theme. People absolutely love this chair!. I collect all sorts of stuff and now its time to sell this and make some room. The chair has only been sat in a couple times. I don't let anyone sit in it. Its Brand new!! It works 100%. Serious offers only please.

A friend of mine has a koken barber chair. He has had it almost completely refurbished, rechromed and new leather.He has been told the chair is very valuable, thinking in the 10’s of thousands. I have seen similar chairs online but have not been able to find any in that price range. There is one thing I found to be unusual about his chair and that is in the footrest it says “Koken Registered U.S. Pat. Off. COMPANIES St. Louis and New York U.S.A. Patented” All the ones I have found online do not have the New York on them. Does this make the chair more valuable

Hey All, New to the forum and to these chairs. I bought and am refurbing a Paidar chair (see attached picture. At this point, I have it almost completely apart. The problem I'm having is that the base is completely locked up. I can't get the pump to move or the base to swivel. Any suggestions on ways to break it lose? Thanks Matt

I have four chairs which I think date back to the 1930/40 era.I have looked extensivley,but cannot find anything similar.The chairs have hexagonal bases as opposed to the usual round ones.Unfortunately there are no markings on the chairs at all to give any indication of origin.Does anyone have any idea?

I am trying to assemble this chair. Everything has been nickel plated except the bolts/nuts. I am missing a few bolts that had to be cut off and need replacements. I assume I can just match threads. Any chance of finding a assembly manual that will help put this together? I have limited photos of disassembly. type of oil,how much,etc..

Did Paidar make a chair without a swivel. I have recently acquired a chair that has the Paidar footrest but doesn't have a swivel. It doesn't look like it ever did.

I just picked up this vintage Koken chair about a week ago at a yard sale and know very little about it. It's in pretty great shape as far as I can tell, with perfectly functional hydraulics and minimal wear to metal parts, including chrome. Leather/vinyl upholstery is in good shape, with just a couple little tears; nothing major, though a restoration would be sweet. The tag on the underside contains some info: "107A all new material consisting of urethane foam REG. No. P.A. 650 (Mo.) Made by Koken Manufacturing Co., Inc. 1631 Martin Luther King Dr., St. Louis, MO 63106" There are some dates regarding compliance on the tag from 1923 to 1929. The spot on tag for "date of deilvery" has no entry. Please check out the pics I provided. Hopefully they help. Anyone know what year this was made? Any idea on value? How common is it? Any info would be a huge help, as I've yet to see one like it after a couple hours of online research. Thanks so much! Rocky P.s. working on getting pics uploaded since these were "denied" somehow.

I am nearing completion on a restoration of a Louis Hanson Chair. I have not found markings resembling a serial number. A friend tells me its around 1925. I am excited to share photos when complete. My Dad cut hair in this chair ending around 1985. I am very lucky to get this chair back in my family. He purchased the barber shop this chair sat in around 1960. I know this barber shop dates back to the 20's. so I am assuming this is the original chair for the shop. The restoration has taken me several months and has included the porcelin being redone as well as the nickel plating. If anyone can help me date this chair I would appreciate any help,

Hello. I just bought a vintage 1900-1920 barber chair and would like to do a through cleaning and was wanting to know what to use I.e. products and tools 1) what to use on porcilin to clean and also there is a couple of chips and I heard there was a repair one could do yourself 2) what to use on what I believe is vinyl uposter 3) what to use on nickel plate, it has some pitting and a lil rust, would like clean up/polish myself until I can afford to re-plate Id appreciate any suggestions. I was wondering if someone can give me advice on hydraulics. I have a 1940's and 1950's Frigid embalming table and the rod keeps bending. The hydraulics seam to be very similiar to that of a Barbers Chair. Any suggestions on what to look for or tips on repair would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1956 Koken chair similar to a President. The handle is very loose. To tip the chair, the handle has to be rotated almost 180 degrees or more vs. the normal 90 degree rotation. Does anyone know how to get rid of the slop and play in the mechanism? The brake that keeps the chair from swiveling is also not working and I think may be a result of the slop and excess play. Thanks.
